Teach it! Year 5 showed great understanding when creating missing number problems involving multiplying a fraction by an integer.
We had a fantastic geography field trip investigating recreational land use around Ryton. We surveyed some local residents to find out what leisure facilities they liked the most and what they felt needed to be improved.
Multiplication using practical equipment to support the area model of 2-digit multiplication, leading to long multiplication. Great work Year 5!
Hey Ho lesson 1
We learned the song ‘Hey ho’ and kept the beat with body percussion and drumbeats.

We have been investigating stereotypes in sport and we all agreed- everyone should feel free to be themselves and participate in any sport!
We were very fortunate to have had a visit from 3 very special people- Mr Innerdale, Mrs Laybourne and Sam Cree who set up an amazing prayer space in school. The children blew us away with their thoughtful prayers and thanks and they had a marvellous time!
Year 5 practiced their map work skills, carefully creating a topographical map of a potato! Next- the Alps!
Year 5 showed off their maths skills, finding cube numbers- well done!

Maths: Finding Factors
Year 5 used counters to find factors of different numbers. We demonstrated our understanding with concrete apparatus and had lots of fun too!
Our visit to the Centre for Life
Year 5 had a fantastic time at the Centre for Life this week. They investigated how astronauts cope with conditions on the International Space Station in the science workshop ‘Destination Space’.
They learned about stars and constellations in the Planetarium as well as exploring the fascinating exhibits and experiencing a thrilling science theatre show with the theme ‘Ice and Fire’.
Of course, they were brilliantly behaved throughout and a credit to our school.
