Miss Cook - Nursery
Welcome to Nursery 2025!
Hi, my name is Miss Cook and I will be your children's new teacher this year in Nursery!
This week has been wonderful meeting and getting to know all of your lovely little ones! The children have settled in so well and have had lots of fun playing and exploring our new nursery environment, seeing familiar faces and making new friends!
Autumn 1 - All about me!
The children are enjoying learning all about themselves, their feelings, their families and their amazing senses - we even got to make and taste our own toast YUM!
Exploring colour!
The children have been exploring colour, matching and sorting at nursery through a range of different activities such as free painting, sensory trays, water play, mark making, colour jumping and colour hunts!
Week 5
This week we have focused on Health and Self Care routines in nursery - learning and understanding why it is important to wash our hands and brush our teeth. We have used interactive activities to support our learning - we drew germs on our hands and watched as the soap and water washed them away - the children loved this - give it a try at home!
Sort it out!
We have been focusing on sorting by a single attribute! The children sorted natural items such as sticks and leaves, and then we went on a shape hunt around the field looking for the shapes that someone had left behind! We were excellent at sorting and knew lots of our shape names!
Outdoor Drumming
Following the Letters and Sounds Phase 1 programme Nursery have been learning about environmental sounds. We engaged in listening walks and outdoor drumming using sticks – the children really loved these activities! The children explored the outdoor area drumming on a range of different objects and listening for the sounds. The children were able to distinguish between loud and quiet sounds very well.
Leaves, Leaves, Leaves
This week we have ceantred our learning around the book 'Leaf Man' and the changes in Autumn. We have explored different leaves - looking at the shapes, colours and types of leaves.
Thank you to everyone who has brought in some leaves from your Autumn challenge - the chidlren have loved creating with these in a range of different ways!
Squiggle whilst you Wiggle
We have really been enjoying Squiggle whilst you Wiggle this term. This is a programme made to support and develop children's fine motor skills ready for early writing! The children follow a set guide of movements which support the lines and circles in our letters.. we have mastered 'Move 1: up and down' and will be ready for the next move in Autumn 2!
Pick a Pumpkin - Halloween
This week we have been reading the book 'Pick a Pumpkin'. The children explored the hill and we found our very own pumpkins - we spoke about all the different shapes, sizes and colours of the pumpkins we discovered and then we opened them up to see what was inside. The children enjoyed using tools to scoop out the seeds (some were even brave enough to stick thier hands in!) and described the flesh as 'sticky, slimey, wet and gooey'.
We have had a lovely week in Nursery celebrating Halloween - we dressed up, explored sesnory trays, read stories, made and decorated biscuits!
Autism Awareness
All things blue! We read a story called 'together we can', made a hand print wreath and spoke about what makes us 'unique' to celebrate Autism Awareness.
