Mrs Thorogood - RVT

Beep Beep Day

Reception class talked about road safety and how to cross the roads safely. We were very lucky to have Cheryl, our school lolly pop person to come into school and role play with us how to cross safely. We need to STOP, LOOK, LISTEN and THINK before crossing the roads.

Creative dance day

We were very lucky to take part in a Spring dance as part of our creative dance day.

World Book Day

Seven Stories trip

Today Reception class were very lucky to visit Seven Stories. What a busy, fun packed day we have had! We had a storytelling workshop called 'The sweet escape' and we got to role play some traditional stories for the rest of the class to guess. Our acting skills were amazing! We loved looking around the 'Tiger who came to tea' exhibition as it's one of our favourite stories. We will all sleep well tonight!

Pancakes!

After learning about Shrove Tuesday and Ash Wednesday, we shared some of the things that we could give up for Lent; sweets was a popular choice. We read the story 'Mr Wolf's Pancakes' and thought about how we would like to decorate our own pancakes. We used our spreading and chopping skills to prepare our toppings. Squirting the cream was extremely tricky and really worked our finger muscles hard! They were delicious!

People who help us

We have been learning all about the different jobs that people do in our community and the people who help us. We have been role playing doctors and we even had a parent kindly come into our class to talk about her role as a consultant doctor.

Kandinsky

We have created our own artwork inspired by the artist 'Kandisnsky'

The Jolly Christmas postman

Today we had a very special visit from one of our parents who is also a postwoman. She very kindly delivered our class story books ready for our literacy lesson. There was also a special letter from the Jolly Postman. To make it extra special we drank hot chocolate infront of the crackling open fire on the screen. It was just lovely!

Stay and play

Thank you to everyone who came to our Christmas stay and play. It was lovely to have families and children join together in our Reception class to take part in a range of Christmas activities. We would also like to thank Maria from Gateshead library for leading a parent talk on the importance of reading for pleasure and also reading us some lovely Christmas stories. It's safe to say we are truly in the festive spirit here at Ryton!

Repeating patterns

In our maths lessons we have been learning all about repeating patterns. We have made patterns in a range of ways including; body movement patterns, patterns with objects and printed patterns. Here are some examples of our lovely work!

Inter Faith Week

We have been celebrating different faiths and learning about other cultures both in class and with the help of our special visitors, Brother Khadim and Michael Glickman. They taught us about the Muslim and Jewish faiths. We also learnt about the special festival of light 'Diwali'.

Remembrance

In Reception class we have been learning about how Remembrance is celebrated each year. We have made poppies in a range of ways to display in our classroom.

Healthy teeth

We have been learning all about different ways to keep our teeth healthy. We were surprised at how long two minutes was when we practised brushing teeth with the timer!

Pumpkin patch

We have our very own pumpkin patch here at Ryton early years. We have loved weighing the pumpkins and picking the perfect size to sell to our friends in our shop. Some of them are very heavy but they have been great for helping us to get strong arm muscles!

We're going on a leaf hunt

Forest school was fantastic this week. We went on a leaf hunt to find a collection of different coloured leaves and talked about the changes in the Autumn season.

Fun in the outdoor area

The children used the large construction resources to make their own stage to perform on with a 'cone light show' at the front and fireworks at the side. They sang their favourite songs and sounded amazing!!
