Making healthy wraps

Year two have designed and made our own healthy wraps in our design and technology lessons. We used cutting, peeling, spreading , grating and snipping skills to help us to make our wraps. They were delicious!

World book day in year 2 

Chinese food tasting

To complete our China topic we tasted a range of Chinese foods. To make it even more tricky, we used chop sticks to pick up the food.

Hand washing investigation 

We carried out a hang washing investigation to find out which was the best way to remove germs from our hands.we pretended that the glitter was the germs. We used paper towels, water and soap and water to test which was best. 

Learning about China

We have been very lucky today to have Lily in our class. She is an English teacher in China and very kindly offered to come into our class. Year 2 are learning about China as our Geography topic so it was a great opportunity to ask Lily questions about living there and what school is like. She taught us some Chinese and even helped us to find out our english names. 

Forest school

This morning year two visited our forest school. We hunted for objects which have different textures in preparation for our art lesson next week. It was frosty and sunny. The weather was just perfect!

Colour mixing

To begin our new art topic we have been experimenting with colour mixing. We used the primary colours to make secondary colours in a tray. We added water and let it run to make the new colours, naming them as we could see them.

Geography

We have begun to learn about China in our geography lessons. We have used atlases to locate the seas, rivers and cities in China as well as the capital city, Beijing!

The Christingle 

Today we have been learning about the Christingle in R.E. We had lots of fun making our own!

Library visit

Year 2 had a lovely trip to Crawcrook library today. We heard a Christmas story and took part in a Christmas jumper treasure hunt. it was so much fun!

Linkages 

In our design & technology lessons we have been learning about mechanisms. We have made our own linkage system using card and split pins to make our own moving monsters!

Visitor from the Gurdwara temple in Newcastle

We had a visit from Jas from the Gurdwara to talk to us about Sikhism and share some traditions with us. We all enjoyed this very much especially looking at the artefacts and traditional clothes!

History detectives

We were history detectives this afternoon where we looked at a range of clues to find out how the Great Fire of London started.

Trip to the Discovery Museum

Year 2 have had a fantastic day at the Discovery Museum. We have explored the science area and the other fantastic parts of the museum. We ended the visit with a workshop on ‘The Great Fire of Gateshead’ where we learnt all about this catastrophic event in our local area. We have had so much fun! 

Inter Faith Week

We have been celebrating Inter Faith week in school this week and learnt about many different religions and faiths. We have been very lucky to have Mr Glickman and Brother Khadim in school to talk to us about their faiths and share some of the Jewish and Muslim traditions. We have also celebrated Diwali by tasting foods and making some traditional festival sweets. It has been so much fun!

Visit to the Holy Cross Church 

Year two visited the Holy Cross Church in Ryton today to talk about Remembrance. We have had such a lovely time making poppies and placing them around the war memorial. We listened to the Last Post while we had a two minutes silence. 

Poetry

In our English lessons we have been learning about some of Marylin Singer’s reverse poems and how they are structured. We have been reciting the poems ourselves today. 

P.E in year 2!

Science investigation

In science we have been investigating which materials would be the best to make a raincoat. We discussed which of the materials we tested would be waterproof. 

Making felt

In our art lesson this week we used wool fibres, soap and hot water to make our own felt. We also made our own felt creations using manufactured felt and compared the difference. We are very proud of our lovely display work!
