Year One returned to school today and had a super maths morning. They were comparing the mass of objects and finding out which object was heavier and which was lighter.
As they have been super online learners , they ALL had ice lolly Friday treat! They are so amazing!

We found so many minibeasts in our wonderful forest area. We even found a newt!
Year 1 have been making arrays today in maths, learning about rows and columns. We are super at counting in 2’s, 5’s and 10’s to find the total!

The children loved creating their Olympic story on the computer as our entry to the school sports partnership entry for courage. They loved watching clips from 2012 London Olympics and looking through the atlas.

This term Year 1 are learning about Christianity and we have been looking at Christian symbols that can be used to help people pray.
The children enjoyed learning the origins of the symbols and handling the artefacts.
We have had a great first week back!
Year 1 are learning about the life cycle of a chick so we visited the hens. We all loved stroking Ginger and we collected 5 eggs! The children are learning tennis skills this half term and loved practising in the sunshine! We have had our first hot chocolate Friday and the children chosen loved their treat!

Busy Year 1’s!
Year 1 have been so busy! We have had fantastic virtual music lessons with our specialist music teacher Miss Thompson, thinking about Spring and animals. Last week we were super science investigators!

Computing with Computing4Kids NE
Year 1 had a fantastic afternoon with Mrs Dodds from Computing 4 Kids NE.
Using the Supertato book, the children were learning how to program robots. They enjoyed making their own video games, designing their own characters, settings and movements. Year 1 also drew their own pattern and the small robots followed the patterns! They were amazing!

Operation Christmas Child
The children loved filling their shoe box for a five year old girl. Everybody added their gift into the shoe box.
Music lesson
The children loved the weekly music lesson with our music specialist, Miss Thompson. They sang Halloween songs with actions and used the instruments to have musical conversations.
Fairy tale shoe boxes
The children loved designing and making their fairy tale scenes based on Hansel and Gretel. They practised joining techniques and cutting skills.
Hansel and Gretel
We loved listening to the story of Hansel and Gretel. Today the witch came to school! We loved acting out the story, the birds even ate the bread crumbs.
In our ICT lesson, we practised giving instructions to each other and used code to create algorithms. We were pretending to be robots!
Here we are keeping fit and healthy in the yard.
We are reading The Magic Porridge Pot in class so we thought we should make some! We really enjoyed trying different toppings and we talked about the fact that porridge is a healthy choice for breakfast.
To fit in with our topic on Healthy Living, we did some exercises out on the yard. Look at us touching our toes, running on the spot and even doing lunges and press ups!
Maths and Senses Fun!
The children enjoyed finding all of the different representations of each number to 10.
We have been naming our body parts and learning about our senses this week.
The children enjoyed using their sense of touch to find out what was in the bag and their sense of hearing to guess which instrument I was playing behind the board. We all enjoyed using our sense of smell to guess what the herbs and spices were and whether we liked or disliked the smells. We all loved the cinnamon and ginger spices!
A super start to Year 1!
Year 1 have had a brilliant start to the new school year!
We are enjoying playing with our friends, exploring the classroom and having fun!
We are learning our tricky words, our sounds and we love counting to 100 every day in our funny voices. We all like the very loud voice!
We have enjoyed learning about our wonderful world and listening to the song, What a Wonderful World sung by Louis Armstrong.
On Friday we had our first virtual music lesson with our specialist teacher, Miss Thompson. We sang lots of body songs and enjoyed playing the instruments. Miss Thompson played her violin and we tapped the pulse. She is going to play What a Wonderful World on her violin next week. We are looking forward to next week's lesson!
